Where IKEA wins

Price, design and room fit. The FÖRNUFTIG at S$89.90 publishes a CADR of 25–120 m³/h (with particle and gas filters) and a room size of 8 m². The STARKVIND table hides a purifier inside a side table, publishes CADR (55–270 m³/h with the particle filter), runs from 24 dB at its lowest speed, and connects to the IKEA Home smart app through IKEA's DIRIGERA hub. IKEA also states its room sizes, so you can check them. For a study, nursery corner or small bedroom, that is honest, affordable kit.

Where the limits are

These units are sized for small rooms. IKEA lists an EPA 12 filter (99.5% stated); AIRE lists H13 HEPA, a higher filter class. The pages we checked describe filtration, with an optional gas filter for odours, and did not mention UV-C or ionisation. For a consult room, dental surgery or shared office, suitability depends on the room volume and the clean-air output it needs.

What AIRE adds

AIRE's medical range pairs an H13 HEPA filter with UV-C and copper-silver ion stages. In chamber testing, more than 99.99% of the tested airborne pathogens (E. coli, Staphylococcus albus, Influenza A) were eliminated within 60 minutes, against roughly 4 hours 23 minutes for the same organisms to decay passively on a standard HEPA filter. Is EPA 12 the same as HEPA?

No. EPA 12 is a high-efficiency (EPA) class, and IKEA states 99.5% efficiency. H13 is a HEPA class, one class higher. Filter class alone does not make a purifier medical-grade; ask for the test standard when comparing.

Can I use IKEA air purifiers in a clinic?
